Green Books sold to UIT Cambridge

Bertoli Mitchell is pleased to announce the sale of Green Books to UIT Cambridge Limited.

Founded in 1986, Green Books has grown into one of the most significant publishers on environmental issues, with links to, and co-publications with, many of the leading organisations in the field such as The Schumacher Society, Schumacher College, The Gaia Foundation, The Transition Network, Feasta (the Irish Foundation for the Economics of Sustainability), Resurgence magazine and The Soil Association.

Its programme includes economic and political analyses of green issues, including the transition to a post-oil and post-climate-change world – among these, the bestselling The Transition Handbook and Economics Unmasked. Green Books also has a market-leading list in the practical areas of organic gardening and eco-building, and important titles in other ecological disciplines.

UIT Cambridge was founded in 2003 and its programme spans the areas of sustainability, the environment, health and drugs, including the bestselling 'without hot air' series.

The transaction was brokered by Bertoli Mitchell, acting on behalf of Green Books. John Elford, who has run Green Books since 1989, is stepping down from day-to-day management, but the business and its other employees remain in Dartington, near Totnes.
