British Association of American Studies Strategic Alliance with CUP
(July 2014)
Bertoli Mitchell is pleased to announce that it advised the British Association of American Studies (BAAS) in negotiating a new Academic Partnership Agreement with Cambridge University Press to publish the Journal of American Studies (JAS). Founded in 1955 BAAS exists to promote, support and encourage the study of the United States. JAS was established in 1967 and is now a leading journal in the field and the flagship publication of the Association.
Bertoli Mitchell supported BAAS on all commercial and intellectual property aspects throughout the process, including archival research, scenario planning and contract negotiation. Working with the officers of the Association Bertoli Mitchell advised BAAS in achieving a positive outcome which crystallised the Association's joint ownership of the Journal, established a secure future income stream for the Association and, by preserving a strong publishing relationship with Cambridge, ensured the long term future of the Journal.
Prof Bridget Bennett, Chair Publications Sub-Committee, British Association for American Studies said: “From the very first conversation we had with Bertoli Mitchell we were immediately reassured by their thoroughness and understanding of what was needed. At every stage of the negotiating process they were superb, combining great acuity with humanity. We cannot recommend them highly enough: as individuals and as a team they were great to work with.”
