Six Intersentia Academic Law Journals move to SAGE Publishing

(November 2016)

Bertoli Mitchell is pleased to announce that it advised the directors of Intersentia, an independent publishing house specialising in providing legal content for the professional market, in the transfer of six academic journals to SAGE Publishing.

The six titles cover European law, network industry law, labour law, human rights and criminal law. A full list of the transferring journals can be found below:

·         Competition and Regulation in Network Industries investigates the shift from monopoly to competition, emerging problems surrounding the right of all citizens to access basic public services, and the continuing expansion of the legal and economic terrain of the communications industry.

·         European Journal of Social Security is concerned with developments in social security at the EU level and, on a comparative basis, with developments in different European countries. The journal has an exclusive collaboration with FISS, the Foundation for International Studies on Social Security based in Antwerp.

·         European Labour Law Journal is a leading journal in the area of European labour law and social policy. It is partnered with the European Labour Law Network, and has good networks with the International Labour Organisation, the International Society for Labour Law and Social Security, the International Industrial Relations Association, and the European Foundation for Living and Working Conditions.

·         Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law is one of the leading journals on European law. The journal is also part of the ongoing research programme of METRO (Maastricht Institute for Transnational Legal Research of Maastricht University, Netherlands).

·         Netherlands Quarterly of Human Rights is published with the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) and publishes the latest evolutions in the promotion and protection of human rights from around the world.

·         New Journal of European Criminal Law serves as a forum for both legal practitioners and academics interested in issues related to European criminal law. The journal has two patrons: the European Criminal Bar Association and the European Criminal Law Academic Network.

Hans Kluwer, Director at Intersentia, commented:

“As the market for academic journals has changed drastically over the last few years, Intersentia wishes to focus on high quality monographs, research series and digital expert libraries. Therefore we have decided to transfer the journals to a key player in the academic journal market. Intersentia prides itself on its personal approach and it was key for us to find a publisher to house these journals who understands the importance of interpersonal relationships, as well as being able to reach a global audience. SAGE, as a leading independent academic publisher, with a strong history of adapting content to suit the needs of both the scholarly and professional communities it serves around the world, felt very much like the right fit.”

He added:

“Bertoli Mitchell advised us throughout the process of publisher search and selection.   Their understanding of our academic journals, combined with their experience and relationships in this particular sector, played a key role in helping us to identify the right publisher to take the journals forward.”
